You twist the brass door knob and push the heavy oak door, the smell of old paper, warm and welcoming, strengthens threefold as you enter what appears to be a small room.
A thick azure and gold patterned rug, faded with age, covers the better part of the floor and a small fire crackles behind an elaborate fireguard in one corner of the room, probably to ward off moisture as this room is filled with books!
Strangely the room is lit as though it were sunlit though you can see no source of the illumination.
However you Can see an excellent Egyptian style mural that runs the length of the wall depicting gazelle, hunting cats and water fowl including some beautiful Papyrus flowers and reeds. As you look around you realise that the cave is actually far larger than you original thought, your first impression was a room a single wall of book shelves but now you can see beyond the break in the book cases on the far wall there appears to be more rows of books, each set far enough apart for a clydesdale could comfortably pass through.
Awed you cross the room and walk through the gap in the shelves to find there many more book cases and, not surprisingly, two librarians.
A large tome sits on a lecturn to one side and perched on it is a green and yellow dragon holding a quill pen in it's paw. It appears to be working on cataloging books. Near it is a large green scaled horse like creature using a strange tool to shelve books. The horse creature winks at you and wiggles it's ears to indicate the dragon but continues on it's task.
Finally the writing dragon seems to notice your presence. "Hyft!" It chuffs, carefully blotting the page it ws writing on before setting it's quill down.
"A visitor." It uncoils from it's seat, unfurling it's pale amber wings with a papery rustle and hops closer to look you over. As it does so you realise with some amusement that it is wearing a pair of pince nez on the end of it's long snout and is peering short sightedly through them at you.
Before you can so much as bat an eyelid it seizes your wrists in a surprisingly strong grip and turns them over, scrutinising our palms and fingers.
"Clean enough I supppose..." It twists it's head to look at you suspiciously. "You won't take any of the texts without due permission or consume foods or beverages in this room will you?!"
The green horse steps in on your behalf, an amused expression on his gentle face.
"Of course they won't Z!ibih'katri. No one will so much as dog ear a text with you looking after the library with so much ferocity."
"Honey tongue." The old dragon looks at the stallion with undisguised affection. "You keep an eye on them then my little Baela while I finish illuminating this chapter."

The dragon climbs back onto the lecturn and resumes her work as the Dragonish horse grins, showing sharp teeth. " Ah but there were no introductions, that it Affi, the best library dragon in existance." The old dragoness clicks her teeth in a soft laugh, apparently hearing Baiela's comment, her sweeping earflaps easily overhearing your conversation.
"And I am Baiela. I apologise for Affi's abruptness, she holds the wellbeing of her charges..." With this he sweeps his spiked tail to indicate the room. "...in very high reguard."
"When I was young I used to drive Affi mad chewing on the book bindings and shredding papers. The old cave where we still houses some of the Tir's records but the larger part of the library had to be transported here." The green creature sighs. "I should know, I had to carry most of it to safety when a storm almost flooded the old place. Darkhorse cleared out this cavern, it used to be a meeting place before the hot springs shifted, and we began the move as soon as all the books were boxed. Many of the Tirs other creatures helped with the move so we are still quite disorganised... Especially since the second reforming of the Tir lands."
Baiela sighs and looks at the half emptied boxes around him then seems to notice the curious glances you have been casting at him.
"Oh.." He grins. "I suppose you are wondering exactly what I am." The tall stallion shakes out his jet mane. " I am a Glyph, my species is a mixture of unicorn and dragon. Most of my siblings have wings but I hatched without. I suppose it is in it's own way a blessing. Wings would only hinder me in here... though I still have dreams of flight sometimes. Darkhorse is still trying to rig up a sort of hang gliding rig for me but we're having trouble with getting it off the ground." He grins sheepishly and looks at the rows upon rows of books.
"I think there is a list of my siblings and kin here somewhere if you are interested... I must find it some time"
I'm afraid the Library is too disorganised for you to find much here.. There's a book of teleport spells in the study, just over there." He nods to a door that you could have sworn wasn't there a moment ago. Baelia grins. "Pay the temporal distortions no mind, it's all caused by the books. Now I must get back to the tomes or they'll never get sorted. Farewell." He bobs his head and returns to the boxes of books, leaving you to return to the main cavern.
