The beach winds on southwards still. The forest to the East gradually gives way as a steep ridge of ochre and white quartz stone jutts skyward dividing the Tir into it's lush and arid halves.

Ahead the ridge crumbles into the sea, the fallen stones cemented into place by generations of barnacles and other calcanious shelled creatures building upon one another and the rocks. It may be a little of a steep hike but you are fairly certain you can get to the top of the blockade in less than a half hour.

Fifteen minutes later you drag yourself up onto the highest point of the ocean touching rubble. To the South the beach continues, pristine and white. However unlike the North Western side of the ridge a heat haze shimmers over the beach.
Maion Aloki, creatures unique to the Tir. The coast changes to sand dunes as your eye roves inland, beyond them there is seems nothing but heat haze and rippling, shivering sand.
Near the base of the ridge you can see a few stunted bushes and grasses but as the desert extends these give way to nothing but sand.
There is a trill near you and a large iguana like creature lands on a boulder with a flurry of irridecently translucent wings.
After your first glance at the creature your eyes slide down to take in the scattered, sunbleached bones that litter the ground near that stone. Startled and immediately wary you take a step back from the no longer so harmless looking reptile.
It blinks at you for a minute then starts chittering. You are about to take another step backward and run as hard as you can for the Northern shore when you realise that it's laughing!

"Oh K'zarti! You believe in my ferocity too much. These are not from me. Look!" It opens it's mouth wide and you can see small, somewhat blunt and peg like teeth set in bright yellow gums with a broad tongue the colour of saffron rice.
"My kind are insectivorous. Though I admit to liking the odd scorpion." The reptile offers, folding it's dragonfly-like wings away under a skinfold on it's back.
"All these." It flicks it's tail at the bones, sending a skull skittering towards you. "Are from those who fell." It indicates up with it's nose and you look up the cliff side that runs sheer up to the narrow upper tip of the ridge.
"They took the wrong path, lost their balance and ended up scavenger food." The reptile informs you. "I cannot stay long, I have a message to deliver, but I saw you here and thought I might let you know what you are in for if you head out into the desert." The reptile trills.
"The Southern beach you follow beyond this ridge is known as "The hem between Deserts" as it sits between a desert of sand and a desert of salt. Fresh water is rare to find in both. However if you are intent on exploring try to head North East from here, you are more likely to find the Oasis. If you see a invisible shimmering wall before you I would strongly advise you not to cross it. The Tir ends at that point and it is not safe to pass beyond. Kah! I'd best go. Safe travel K'zarti!"
The reptile spins on it's hindlegs, unfolding it's wings once more and leaps into the air, zifting off in a hum of wings. You watch it disappear up along the ridge and out of sight.

Now to decide: on the Northern side you are still in the rainshadow where fresh water is readily available but beyond this point you are down into the desert...
