You cautiously walk away from the three-headed unicorn who watches you go, one head curious, one jovial and one slightly menacing. Pushing aside a thick branch of willow that grows alongside a small stream that bisects this smaller isle you find a sweet smell and you see a thick brush of honeysuckle, small azure and gold humming birds zim past sipping the nectar. There is a yowl and a tabby cat, gold as the flowers climbs down from the tree, it's tail twitching in long, slow sweeps of contentment. It prrrs and rubs along your leg leaving a trail of white fur then turns and pads back into the brush ignoring you. Your curiosity peaked you follow the cat getting caught in brambles and branches as you go. Finally you break out into a small glade filled with silver gum trees looking like you were dragged backwards through a hedge and, in many ways, you have been. Looking around the glade you see a nest that appears to be woven from honeysuckle and, on closer inspection, ginger and white cat fur. Lying beside it is a silvery white winged unicorn who is being climbed over by a larger litter of tortoise shell and tabby kittens. There are so many kittens the unicorn almost looks as he it's surrounded by a moving warm fuzzy, muticoloured blanket. The purring is audible from the unicorn as well as the kittens.
As you approach he notices your presence and gracefully rises to his feet, spilling kittens lightly to the ground. A few cling to his back and mane and watch you with slit eyes while the others, after a mew of protest, scamper out of the way. He stretches his wings slightly and the kittens on his back pounce at the fluttering feathers low on his back.
He bobs his head indicating you could follow him and carefully steps away through the thicket, kittens frolicking afterhim.
You could follow him or return the way you came... |
